In 2003, he became a semifinalist on MTV’s The Wade Robson Project and the runner-up on Star Search.
In 2007, Boss auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance season 3, but didn’t make the top 20. The next season, he came in second place. He went on to appear as an “All Star” on seasons 7, 8 and 9.
In 2014, he joined The Ellen DeGeneres Show as the house DJ. Boss worked on the talk show until its end in May 2022. The dancer also joined Ellen’s Game of Games when it debuted in 2017, as DeGeneres’ announcer and sidekick.
The Magic Mike XXL star married fellow SYTYCD alum Allison Holker in 2013 and later adopted her daughter, Weslie Renae, whom she had from a previous relationship. The pair welcomed a son Maddox in 2016 and daughter Zaia in 2019. In 2017, the couple were named hosts of Disney’s Fairytale Weddings.
Days after celebrating their ninth wedding anniversary, Boss died by reported suicide at age 40. Holker confirmed his death in December 2022, saying in a statement, “I will always save the last dance for you.”
